About Petra Diamond

Petra Diamond Bursary

Petra Diamonds, found in 1997, is one of the biggests independent diamonds producers in Africa and even worldwide with producing almost 60% of the world’s diamond by value.  It has eight mining sites in South Africa and Tanzania and one exploration site in Botswana. Five non-core diamond mines are acquired from De Beers. In running the business, Petra Diamonds also cares about the enviroment sustainability by implementing reservation programs in environmental management, rehabilitation and closure plan, water management, land management and biodiversity, energy usage, climate change, rehabilitation and closure plans and waste managements. In contributing for African people, Petra Diamonds implements Black Economic Empowerment policy.

Fields of Study Available

The Petra Diamond bursary is provided as proof of the company’s commitment in developing and expanding South Africa’s skills base. Therefore the available fields of study are those that relate with the company’s activities and concentrations: Bachelor of Science, Bachelor of Engineering or Bachelor of Technology in Mechanical Engineering, Mining Engineering and Electrical Engineering and Geology

The Qualifications For Bursary

Petra Diamond bursary requires applicants to fulfill the following qualifications and those are:

–              Applicants must be South African citizen

–              Applicants are interested in the mining industry and a commitment in building a career within the industry

–              Current university students must be academically satisfying in their fields of study

–              Current matriculants must obtain university exemptions with minimum of 6 or 7 for Maths and Physical Science

–              Successful bursars will be obligated to work-back for Petra Diamonds after graduation depend on how long they are in sponsorship and should be willing to be placed in rural areas if asked

Petra Diamond bursary will cover full academic expenses, e.g. tuition, registration, residence, meals, personal and travel allowances annually, life skills training, compulsory vacation employment during December and January and Petra Diamond bursary is renewable annually.
